First Snowmaking Campaign Continues of 65th Winter Season at Snow Trails Mansfield, Ohio

    Updated: 12-4-25 3:55PM » SNOW REPORT
Please look to early next week for what we anticipate will be an Opening Day announcement to share with you. Remaining in Pre-Season #STSnowmaking mode is needed now through early next week.

Marginal temps during many hours of our campaign have resulted in lower snow production volumes. Our intention is to produce the needed base of snow to setup the Season for success.

The early snowmaking and natural snow - many times rarely for Christmas - has us all excited and anxious to get to the fun! We always look forward to offering you Early and Late Season Bonus Weekends, but know they are not always possible.

Our typical opening is the second week of December, so we are thankful to still be on schedule.

Please stay tuned as snowmaking continues, and as always you can track our progress anytime as we build-up the base of snow and excitement for our 65th Winter Season with you! See the Snow » Web Cams

HALF-MILLION DOLLARS IN NEW CONSTRUCTION FOR 50TH SEASON AT SNOW TRAILS

September 27, 2010

NEWS FROM SNOW TRAILS

For Immediate Release September 27, 2010

Mansfield, OH, September 27, 2010:  A new facility for the Vertical Descent Tubing Park is under construction at the popular ski resort near Mansfield. Scott Crislip, business manager, stated the new Tubing Lodge will be ready by mid-December, in time for the Christmas Holidays.

The new "mini-lodge" will offer a place to warm-up and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or coffee and a sandwich. The facility, right at the bottom of the Tubing Park run, will also provide rest rooms making the trip to the main Ski Lodge unnecessary.

The Vertical Descent Tubing Park opened in 2006 and is home to the longest tubing runs in Ohio. For the non-skier it's a great opportunity to enjoy the out-of-doors in winter with family and friends. The Park is open weekends and holidays all day and evenings and Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. Hours of operation include Monday through Thursday 5:00PM- 9:30PM, Friday 5:00PM- Midnight, Saturday 9:00AM- Midnight, and Sunday 9:00AM- 9:30PM. Late Night Snow Tubing will be available until 2:00AM January 7th, 28th, and February 18th, 2011.

In addition to the new tubing lodge, six additional tower-mounted automatic snowmaking machines are being installed to increase production on the ski slopes. Snowmaking, which was pioneered by Snow Trails in 1961, is essential to successful ski resort operations in the Mid-West.

Snow Trails, which was the first commercial ski area in Ohio, is celebrating its Golden Anniversary this year. The privately owned resort has been under the same management since its inception. The resort features six chairlifts, two conveyor carpet lifts (one is utilized for the Tubing Park) and 15 trails plus three terrain parks.

Dave Carto, president and founder of the popular North Central Ohio resort said, "Last year we enjoyed a good winter which afforded us the opportunity to invest $500,000 in capital improvements." He added that the ski resort usually opens in early December and the season lasts into March. The resort is located off Interstate 71 south of Mansfield on Possum Run Road.
