Resort Doing their Part for Ohio to Address White House Predictions of Higher Jobless Rates

Mansfield, OH, December 4, 2009:  Skiing in Ohio?  For the first time not only are winter enthusiasts excited. With recent automotive plant closings and other major industry jobs lost, job seekers are lining up in droves to fill 500 positions at the Resort.

In just the last few weeks, the Resort has received over 1,200 applications, driven by just a blog post on their website and one ad in a local newspaper.  Both of which were pulled within days of running, due to the overwhelming response.  With cold weather on the way, the Resort has already hired more than 500 people with more than half of the open positions going to new workers.

In the past, most applicants were skiers who wanted a fun job and the free pass offered to employees. Now, that's changing.  Traditionally, much of the staff was made up of young adults and people looking for a second job.  This year the Resort is seeing more adult's in-between jobs or laid-off.

Snow Trails Lift Operations Manager Tim Clerkin said, "Not surprisingly based on the rate of unemployment, Snow Trails will be the primary job for those in my department this season. This is up dramatically from years past!" Tim Clerkin said. "The number of applications we received for Lift Operations this year was up about 60%. We were able to be more selective in our hiring. Of the 90 lift operators we've hired this season, for 75% of them, this is their primary job."

Snow Trails has been serving Ohio since 1961. There are six chairlifts, two conveyor carpets, serving 15 runs, including three terrain parks and a snowtubing park. The Resort boasts being "Ohio's first and finest" based on its reputation of many Midwest firsts, including being Ohio's first ski area and the highest ski slope in Ohio. The ski season runs through March 2010, weather permitting. The resort is located off Interstate 71 south of Mansfield on Possum Run road.
