Snow Trails Hosts Families and Extreme Talent

Some of the best freestyle skiers in the Midwest will compete, entertaining families who will make a weekend of it.

Mansfield, OH, January 7, 2009:  An event filled weekend for all. Beginning Saturday, January, 10th with the Snow Trails Amp Big Air Competition, followed by Sunday's Family Day Festivities on the 11th.

Pepsi and The Snow Trails Ski Shop have signed on to sponsor the Amp Big Air Competition at Snow Trails.  Some of the best freestyle skiers in the Midwest will showcase their abilities in both ski and snowboard divisions.  Four judges comprised of experienced freestyle skiers and snowboarders will score based on amplitude, style, difficulty, and landing.

Participants will compete for prizes from each sponsor including Bose and Sony MP3 compatible electronics, winter apparel such as hooded sweatshirts, hats, and fleeces, and equipment.  The jump will be located at the base of the Competition Slope at Snow Trails.  Constructed specifically for the event, the jump will stretch up to 50 feet from take-off to landing, accented with banners, flares, and other unique lighting.  Competitors will launch themselves up to 15 feet in the air, off of a steep eight to ten foot high take-off.  The event is free and open to the public. An up-close spectator area will be constructed slope-side for optimal viewing, with additional viewing from the resorts main lodge 2,000 square-foot deck.  Live music will follow in The Snowflake Loft with the rock band Mad Gathering from Mt. Vernon. Twenty-one and up after 9PM in The Snowflake Loft.

Prior to the event, participants may register at the Guest Services Desk at the Resort. Registration is $10. Open registration will continue until 5pm the day of the event.  A practice session will be held from 3:00pm- 5:00pm, with the event beginning at 6:00pm.
