Big Air Event This Weekend
Cold weather, blue skies, and lots of snow are expected for the Snow Trails Mt. Dew Big Air
Mansfield, OH, January 29, 2008---Cold weather, blue skies, and lots of snow are expected for the Snow Trails Mt. Dew Big Air, happening February 2nd.
Pepsi
and The Snow Trails Ski Shop have signed on to sponsor the Big Air
Competition at Snow Trails. Some of the best freestyle skiers in the
Midwest will showcase their abilities in both ski and snowboard
divisions. Four judges comprised of experienced freestyle skiers and
snowboarders will score based on amplitude, style, difficulty, and
landing. Snow Trails is introducing a new “Fan Favorite” judging
method to the competition. Spectators will send text messages, before
competition end, from their mobile phones to # 95495 with the word
“TRAILS” and their favorite competitors “(Bib #)” as the message. The
results will provide the “Fan Favorite” competitor with bonus prizes.
A similar judging method was used in the 2008 Winter X Games.
Participants
will compete for prizes from each sponsor including, equipment,
apparel, and Bose MP3 compatible electronics. The Big Air jump will be
located at the base of the Competition Slope at Snow Trails.
Constructed specifically for the event, the jump will stretch up to 60
feet from take-off to landing. Competitors will launch themselves up
to 20 feet in the air, off of a steep eight to ten foot high take-off.
The event is open to the public and an up-close spectator area is
constructed beside the jump for viewing. Live music will follow in The
Snowflake Loft with the rock band Introspect from Columbus.
Prior
to the event, participants may register at the Guest Services Desk at
the Resort. Registration is $10. Open registration will continue until
5pm the day of the event. A practice session will be held from 6:00pm-
7:00pm, with the event beginning at 7:30pm.
