private lesson   Know Before You Go (Your first visit)

Winter is not the time to sit on the couch and watch TV. Skiing was one of the first activities that made people realize winter is not only a ton of fun, but a season to anticipate! Over the years, the equipment has changed, but the heart of the sport remains the same. (Good, clean, healthy outdoor family fun). Skiing continues to attract all ages to the beautiful snowy mountains each winter. With today's shaped skis and perfected teaching techniques, learning has never been easier. Really - you can do this!

We make it as easy as possible. Look for the "Let's Get Started Package". It comes with rental equipment, a beginner's area (lift) ticket, and an introductory group lesson. Want additional coaching throughout the day and evening, to learn, practice, and enjoy those new skills? Then add the Pro-Active special upgrade for only $15 more. Pick up your Package in the Rental department.

It's all in the Details
What to wear Checklist
  • Layered clothing (long underwear or turtleneck shirt, wool sweater or acrylic fleece and a waterproof outer layer). Don't wear Cotton sweatshirts/pants, they absorb moisture and will become wet and cold quickly. Forget the jeans or denim street pants, they are not waterproof.
  • ONE pair of wool or acrylic socks (no cotton athletic socks), but bring that extra pair you were going to layer with because you will want to change socks if they become wet. Ski/Snowboard boots are designed to keep your feet warm. Resist the temptation of putting on more than one pair of socks. You will only end up with cold feet and blisters.
  • Waterproof shell pants and warm long underwear.
  • Winter sports jacket.
  • Winter hat. Ninety percent of your body heat is lost through your head (and because your Mom told you so).
  • Waterproof gloves or mittens. Bringing an extra pair is a bonus (they may get wet).
  • Goggles or sunglasses for eye protection.
  • Sunscreen and chapstick
  • Positive and upbeat attitude; you'll have more fun this way!

What to expect in Rental:

Our Rental department carries ski boots from child size 7, up to adult size 16, and snowboard boots from child size 12 up to adult size 14.
  • MEN: Ski boots are basically true to your regular dress-shoe size.
  • LADIES: Ski boots generally run a half size to a full size smaller than your regular dress-shoe size.

Boot Fitting
  • Fit should be snug and your heel should remain in place when you flex your shin forward into the tongue of the boot.
  • Your toes should barely touch the tip of the boot, because if you flex your shin forward, your toes should slide back slightly.
  • Pants go on the outside of your ski/snowboard boots because they are designed to fit snug, and pants will bunch up when tucked inside boot.
  • Try on more than one pair of boots. You are looking for the smallest size boot you can wear comfortably. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask. That's what we're here for.

Good Info to Know:
  • Snow Trails provides an advantage for beginners. We have a SKI CARPET. This moving carpet allows beginners to slide down the slopes without having to use a more intimidating chair lift. It is very beginner friendly.
  • Our lodge has a cafeteria (on first floor), deli and bar (on the second floor), and restrooms located on both levels.
  • A Guest Service counter, located in the main lodge, to help you with any questions you might have.
  • Group and private lessons are offered frequently throughout the day and evening.
  • The Ski Shop carries a complete line of ski and snowboard equipment and clothing. Consult the experts at the Ski Shop before your next purchase or for professional mounting and tuning.
  • You really can do this, let us help! If you have any questions or problems, just ask one of our friendly Snow Trails Associates.
